I woke up this morning, having just run 26.7 miles (yes the course was a bit long on my watch). My skeleton is tired, but absolutely feeling grand. This is probably the best I have ever felt after a marathon. It does make me question if I gave it everything I had yesterday or if I played it too safe? Just another thought for another day!
We packed up our luggage and Uber’ed over to Tokyo Station, where we waited in more long lines for tickets to one of the bullet trains which would take us from Tokyo to Kyoto for more exploring. After what seemed like an eternity, we confusingly navigated through many stairs and escalators to our platform for the 12:00pm train. Carrying luggage after a marathon is not easy… many times Raul was way up ahead and I was just casually taking my time.
On the bullet train, I intended to stay awake and just enjoy the sights. However, soon after leaving, I was cat napping until Nagoya. I managed to open my sleepy eyes, only to fall right back asleep. This was the best 2hr nap I’ve had in two weeks. I know that in order to stay healthy, sleep is paramount. I haven’t gotten enough of it lately, so this cat nap was refreshing.

At Kyoto Station, it was time to juggle my luggage some more and wait in some more lines for a local taxi. This was my first local taxi ride — what an adventure! I think the car was older than me and the driver was ancient. We barely fit into the backseat with our luggage and the car was 25 C (77 F). The driver whizzed around town and cut some other drivers off, just like a typical taxi driver. When we arrived to our next hotel, I was just excited to get out and get some fresh air. We dropped off our luggage and adventured out for more Korean-style BBQ, which is something safe that I’ve been able to digest here in Japan.
Knowing that more adventure awaits this week, I called it early and was asleep before 7pm.
